Broward County Convention Center’s sustainability goal is to ensure a safe and healthy atmosphere for our valued guests. We have successfully implemented several green initiatives throughout our facility, with ongoing efforts to introduce new and innovative programs to conserve and repurpose our resources.
In accordance with the Center’s LEED Gold certification, we encourage all our meeting planners and exhibition organizers to “think green” during the planning stage and execution of their events.
LEED Certification
The Broward County Convention Center is proud to have maintained its LEED Gold certification since 2012.
The program, developed by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council, is a widely recognized and respected system for promoting sustainable building practices. It provides a framework and set of rating systems that evaluate the environmental performance and sustainability of buildings, homes and neighborhoods.

Broward County Convention Center has partnered with a local composting provider, Renuable, to responsibly manage organic, plant-based waste generated during meetings and conventions. Over 100,000 pounds of waste have been diverted from the Broward County Convention Center since starting the program in 2023. By diverting organic waste from landfills with Renuable, the Convention Center not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also creates valuable compost that enriches soil health and fosters sustainable agriculture. This initiative represents a significant stride towards a more sustainable future for the Convention Center and the Fort Lauderdale area.
